Above the clouds
Hello everyone, we've had an eventful week, and some of you already know about our adventures. We began our adventure on Tuesday by taking the bus to the 5th Station on Mount Fuji which is at 2305 m. From here we began our climb in the drizzly rain. We climbed through the wind, rain, blazing sun, mist and cloud to the 8th Station at 3020m where we stayed the night. We didn't have much of a night, we woke at 1.30am to start the climb. Kieran was determined to get to the top by sunrise despite the fact we had forgotten the torch and it was bloody dark. We clambered up the mountain in the dark until we found a well equipped group with torches and followed them to the top. We arrived at the top (3776m) around 4.30am just before sunrise. You wouldn't believe the amount of people at the top. And they have vending machines and gift shops! The Japanese never miss an opportunity to shop.
Anyway, this is where the story gets good. As the sun rose above the clouds, Kieran asked me to marry him in a poem! How romantic is he? I was completely gobsmacked but said yes. So we are getting hitched! Our joy was only slightly dampened by the fact we still had to descend the mountain and the weather was getting worse.

Only read the news today, that's fantastic! Just when I had lost all faith in men and romance... An imminent wedding plus a new niece to boot - you must be higher than Mount Fuji.
Enjoy the rest of this adventure plus the start of your new one together. I'm off to find me one of those romatic men, though I suspect Julie may have bagged the last one...
Take it easy.
Claire
Wow, thats great news. Congratulations, are you getting married in Japan or over here?

It must have been the lack of oxygen that made Julie agree!
Thanks for all your comments chaps. We'll be getting married in the UK next year some time by the way. See you soon x
Sam has been laughing a lot at the funny face you're pulling Julie!
We're also both very impressed with the bullet train.
Sam is looking forward to you picking him up from nursery next week!
